Health Ministry Health Fair- Paulina Gyan
The Health Ministry held a health fair on October 18 at the Wilmington Junior Academy Gymnasium. The theme of the health fair was focused on the 8 principles of health as encouraged by the Adventist church. Participants had the opportunity to visit booths presenting information and materials on Rest, Sunshine, Nutrition, Water, Exercise, Temperance, Trust In God and Fresh Air. The Water booth featured Dane Agard providing hydrotherapy services, while the Rest station featured Dr. Rachel Agard and her sister in-law Disney, offering massages to sore bodies. Donald Mackenzie also worked tirelessly at the nutrition stand, blending healthy delicious smoothies for all.
Ava Horrell, supported by Dr. Horrell whetted appetites with her healthy, easy-to-fix vegetarian cooking and tastings. As expected, participants who felt the need to exercise after the food tastings could walk over to Michael Ouko at the Exercise stand to try out the exercise props he had on display. Children who wanted their faces painted also had the opportunity to learn while at play by answering a question on healthy lifestyle.
To keep up with routine screenings, participants also had the opportunity to check their blood pressure, blood glucose and Body Mass Index (BMI). Living a healthy lifestyle can’t be separated from spiritual health and trust in God, so our pastors were on stand-by for any individual who had a need for prayers or support. The event would not have been successful without the assistance of the Adventist Whole Health program in Reading, which loaned out their displays boards, props and informational materials.
There are future plans to provide vegetarian cooking demonstrations including a separate workshop on Hydrotherapy. Please be on the look-out for future announcements on this. The Health Ministry team would like to thank everyone who supported the health fair by offering their ideas, time, finances and prayers.
