Nursing Home Ministry Program
.

Our ministry started in 1996 and is enjoyable for both the volunteers and the residents. As few as 6 and as many as 20 or more church members participate in providing an uplifting, hour-long, mini-church service to the residents of two area homes. The Brandywine Nursing Home service is the 1st Sabbath of every month at 3:00 p.m. Somerford Assisted Living is the 3rd Sabbath of every month at 1:30 p.m.

Our program opens with a warm welcome and prayer. Then we begin a lively song service where the residents participate and choose their favorite hymns from large print songbooks provided by the church. Musicians from our church come to play accompaniment to the singing.

At times we have "Testimony Time" where the residents are given the opportunity to share the goodness of the Lord and to offer praise.

The testimony time is followed by special music. A variety of singers and musical groups have offered their praises to the Lord in song over the years.

Special groups from church, such as the Pathfinders and Adventurers come at times to share in the service or to do the whole program. The residents particularly enjoy the young people.

After special music it is time for scripture reading and then the sermon. The sermon is relevant to the season of the year and to the current events that are happening in the world. Other sermons such as Bible and history "Questions and Answers" are very popular. These provide interaction with the residents as we encourage their participation.

After the sermon comes more uplifting music and singing. The residents again choose their favorites.

Then all too soon it is time to end the service. Many times the closing hymn is "God be with you 'til we meet again." We hope to inspire all that attend to put their hope in the Lord and to look forward to meeting together someday "at Jesus' feet."

At times, the staff of these facilities as well as visitors also attend the service. We pray that the Lord will bless all that are present and lead them to a closer walk with Him.

The Brandywine Nursing Home has hosted Volunteer Dinner and Awards ceremonies in which this ministry of our church has been recognized. We thank God for using this ministry so others will know of the West Wilmington SDA Church's commitment and love of the Lord, and that others may be led to our Wonderful Savior.
